The Codacons, through the official website, has disclosed a press release regarding the regulation of microtransactions <\/strong>present in Electronic Arts video games<\/strong> including FIFA 21<\/strong>. Important introductions for children accounts that will have default settings that will not allow the purchase of content in game for a fee unless authorized by a parent account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Important victory for Codacons <\/strong>on the video game front. The Antitrust has in fact closed the investigation procedure opened after the complaint of the Association on the video games Fifa 19<\/strong>, Fifa 20<\/strong>, Star Wars Battlefront II<\/strong>, Apex Legends<\/strong>, very popular among the very young, for the case of unfair commercial practices, accepting the commitments hired by the Eletronic Arts company<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The story was born precisely from a complaint presented by Codacons<\/strong> in which unfair commercial practices were reported to the Authority<\/strong> on the front of “in-game” purchases<\/strong> within a videogame, through which using real money the player can obtain various utilities (such as weapons, equipment, players, special moves, various upgrades related to the nature of the game, virtual coins, etc.) and upgrade your character or team and advance quickly in the game.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A practice is that of “in-game” purchases<\/strong> also included in video games intended for children, in order to induce children to make purchases or to ask parents to do so, by disseminating specific messages for this purpose such as to change the behavior of children.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the information on the need to make purchases during the game was not made transparent to consumers – adds Codacons, now thanks to the complaint of the association the company Eletronic Arts<\/strong> has undertaken to provide consumers with correct information about the presence in the videogame of in-game purchases, and enter the spending limit of zero euro<\/strong> for adolescent accounts as a default setting, which can only be changed by linking the parent’s account to that of the adolescent.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
