The 4321 formation has been removed from EA Sports FC 25. This significant update was confirmed with the unveiling of Electronic Arts’ new football simulator.

The 4321, widely used (some might say overused), was the meta formation throughout EA FC 24. The news of its removal has sparked a reaction within the community. Let’s be frank: the 4321 formation is broken because it allows for a 3421 setup in attack and a more compact and balanced 442 defensively.

As outlined in our guide dedicated to the 4321, this formation achieves near-perfect team balance if defenders can intervene with precise timing.

None of the other formations in EA FC 24 allow for replicating these dual setups in both offensive and defensive phases, which is why the 4321 became almost essential for achieving high rankings in both Division Rivals and the Champions Weekend League.

Community criticism has been abundant because the 4321 provided a certain balance and notably an advantage over the few who didn’t use this formation. This is simply a normal consequence of the introduction of the new FC IQ system.

At present, these fierce criticisms are understandable but unjustified since no one has had the opportunity to fully explore the potential of the FC IQ system, which allows for specific player instructions. Therefore, it may still be possible to set up in a 442 defensively and a 3421 offensively.

The advice is to evaluate hands-on, test the new mechanics, and then form a definitive opinion on the changes in EA Sports FC 25. With EA Play, you can try out Electronic Arts’ new football simulator and see whether this change will bring short-term and long-term benefits.
