With a press release appearing on the official FIFA 23 website, the Canadian software house informed the community that the new powerful EA AntiCheat system could preclude the use of mods to customize the PC version of the new EA Sports football simulator.
If this is confirmed, the complaints from the PC Community would be significant and important. Many PC Players, in fact, very often modify the Roster to introduce Kits, Stadiums, Balls and Boots that are not normally present in the game. All this would therefore be impossible with the new Anti Cheat system.
Does FIFA 23 have any new anticheat functionality on PC?
Yes, we are committed to providing a safe and fair experience for players, and with FIFA 23 on PC, we are debuting EA AntiCheat (EAAC). EAAC is a lightweight kernel-mode anticheat and anti-tamper solution developed by EA and reviewed by security development specialists unaffiliated to and independent of EA.
Our goal with EAAC is to protect the vast majority of players who are simply playing the game for fun from a minority group of kernel-based cheaters and cheat developers who want to engage in Terms of Service (TOS) breaking behaviour and negatively impact the game experience for everyone else. Does the inclusion of EA AntiCheat mean that FIFA 23 on PC requires a constant internet connection?
No, FIFA 23 on PC can be played offline, as long as EAAC is installed. Note that modes such as FUT, which require an online connection, will continue to be online-only experiences.
How does EA AntiCheat work?
In short, EAAC will activate when you launch FIFA 23 and will automatically close itself when FIFA 23 is closed. It engages with third-party applications attempting to interact with FIFA 23 in order to prevent external files and software from being injected into the game. This means that cheats and other software modifications, including community mods, may not be functional. Unfortunately, kernel-level cheating in PC gaming has become more popular with cheat developers in recent times, and these cheats are largely invisible to alternative, non-kernel level anticheat solutions. Protecting single player modes is key to protecting online modes as well, since many cheat developers nefariously tamper with single player files in order to build their cheats.
Additionally, EAAC will automatically uninstall itself when you uninstall FIFA 23, unless there is another EA game installed on the same computer that requires EAAC.
Does EAAC let EA see my browsing history, personal files, or things like that?
Player privacy is a top concern of our Game Security & Anti-Cheat team. EAAC will only look at what it needs to for anti-cheat purposes in our games and we have limited the information EAAC collects. If you have a process on your PC that is trying to interact with FIFA 23, EAAC could see that and respond. However, everything else is off limits.
