The latest Title Update #4 (TU #4) is now available on PC, PS4, and X1.
In this Pitch Notes, we’ll be taking a closer look at a number of changes made to specific areas of FIFA 20, including Career Mode, Skill Moves, Goalkeepers, and more.
We won’t be covering every single item in TU #4 here, but be sure to check out the full list as well. So without further adieu, let’s jump right in.
Career Mode
TU #4 contains the first batch of Career Mode changes, based on player feedback from launch, for FIFA 20, with more planned for future.
Here’s one of the key changes we wanted to highlight in this Pitch Notes.
- Sometimes opposing AI controlled teams were fielding weaker lineups in inappropriate situations.
With this change, AI controlled teams will be fielding stronger lineups in the right situations, resulting in more realistic outcomes in Career Mode. There should be fewer instances of a big teams fielding their lower rated players throughout the course of a season. This change applies to your existing Career Mode save files, there’s no need to start a new one.
With the above in place, we believe it will also impact situations in which top rated teams were ending up at the bottom of their league tables, and sometimes getting relegated. We will be monitoring this issue specifically following the TU to understand if there are any further issues related to this.
Skill Moves
We are making a number of changes to some Skill Moves. These changes have been informed by feedback we’ve received throughout FIFA 20’s development cycle.
There are 2 Skill Move changes we want to highlight in this Pitch Notes.
- Increased the likelihood that error will impact multiple Fake Shots chained while sprinting, specifically when they’re chained at a 45 degree angle in either direction.
With this change, chaining Fake Shots at 45 degree angles while sprinting becomes a more risky series of actions. We expect that this change will require the player to more carefully consider when to perform these Fake Shots.
The other Skill Move change we’re highlighting in this Pitch Notes has to do with the Drag Back.
- Reduced exit speed when performing the Drag Back Skill Move at a 180 degree angle.
After identifying how the Drag Back Skill Move was being used in-game, we decided to make this change in order to bring more alignment between this Skill Move and its real world counterpart.
Goalkeepers
In this TU we’ve continued to update goalkeeper abilities and behaviors, building on the changes from Title Update 2, so let’s take a closer look at one of the changes in TU#4.
- Increased the likelihood that a goalkeeper will gather the ball after performing a slide into a ball carriers’ feet.
For example, you might rush out your goalkeeper in a 1v1 situation in the hopes of sliding into the striker’s feet and collecting the ball before the striker can shoot. With this update, goalkeepers will be more likely to gather the ball instead of just causing contact, reducing the likelihood of loose ball situations.
Ultimate Difficulty in FUT
With TU #4, when you are playing against an AI controlled team in FUT on Ultimate Difficulty, viewing the the Overall Ratings for the AI controlled players will now display ‘Ultimate’ in the Pause Menu’s Player Performance screen.

This was previously displaying the base Overall Rating of the player being viewed, however, it was not considering attribute boosts. This was a visual issue only, as the players were still playing with the intended boost from Ultimate Difficulty.
While we are on the topic, we wanted to clarify exactly what happens when you are playing on Ultimate Difficulty in FUT.
When playing on Ultimate Difficulty in FUT, the players on the AI controlled team have their FUT Attribute categories boosted to 99. This means that outfield players get PAC, SHO, PAS, DRI, DEF, and PHY boosted to 99. Goalkeeper Attribute categories (DIV, HAN, KIC, REF, SPE, POS) are also increased to 99.
Note that this boost doesn’t necessarily mean that individual attributes all become 99 for AI controlled players. The boosts to the individual attributes are done in the same manner as is done for In-Form items in FUT.
This Attribute category boost is the only difference between Ultimate and Legendary Difficulties in FUT. Player and Team Chemistry still applies to both like it would to a human player’s squad, further boosting or reducing the player’s individual attributes as appropriate.
Jumping Attribute
In this TU, we addressed an issue causing players to sometimes jump higher than their Jumping Attribute should allow. With this change, players will not jump higher than intended.
Please note that the change strictly impacts Jumping, and not other factors or Attributes that are involved in a heading situation. All this change does is help ensure that players are not jumping higher than they should be.
Specialties and Goalkeeper Save Techniques
In TU #4, we have removed the following:
- Save Techniques on the Player Bio screen in FUT.
- Specialties from the Player Bio tab in the Select Arena Player screen.
Save Techniques and Specialties have never been present in FIFA 20, and we had missed removing some references to them in the UI. This means that all goalkeepers have the same Save Technique, and that players are no longer being assigned Specialties.
Skill Games
We’ve added text descriptions for each Skill Game, which are displayed while playing them. This should help make it easier to understand what is needed to do in each Skill Game.
