After 50 years, the Bundesligaโs record for goals in a single season was surpassed today by Polish Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski who finished his outstanding championship with 41 goals.
The record was held by another former Bavarian footballer, Gerd Muller, who in the 1971/1972 championship ended the season scoring 40 goals. In the hours before the match between Bayern Munich and Ausburg, the media and some illustrious German football champions had clamored that the Polish striker did not take the field so as not to tarnish the legend of the German champion, but in the end Hans-Dieter Flick fielded in the starting XI Robert Lewandowski who broke the record in the last seconds of the match.
The Polish striker just over a week ago had already praised and remembered Gerd Muller who unfortunately now lives in a bed due to Alzheimerโs disease.
EA Sports could release a special card to celebrate Robert Lewandowskiโs record, in the past other champions have received celebratory cards on the occasion of great achievements or just like in this case after breaking an important record. At the bottom of the news we report our prediction.
