With the gameplay video and Deep Dive released just moments ago, Electronic Arts has unveiled all the gameplay improvements coming to its new football simulation title, EA FC 27.
We had already mentioned the AI defending rebalance, improved attacking spatial awareness, intelligent curved runs, but now we can take a closer look at these features thanks to the detailed information shared by the Canadian developer.
After watching the trailer, which you can find at the end of this article, and reading through the Gameplay Deep Dive, it immediately becomes clear that EA has focused on rewarding player skill with the controller rather than relying on CPU-driven automation, which caused several issues in last year’s title.
The reduction in defensive AI effectiveness makes manual defending 40% more effective in EA FC 27 compared to the previous edition, where defensive play in the vast majority of situations relied almost entirely on automated AI interventions.
Second-man press has also been nerfed. The AI-controlled teammate will still attempt to mark the ball carrier, but will now keep a greater distance, making it necessary to switch to that player if you want to actively challenge for possession.
Another particularly interesting addition is the Off-Balance Dribbling mechanic. During physical challenges, it rewards technically gifted players by allowing them to regain their balance more effectively, even after collisions with physically stronger opponents.
Set-piece situations from corners have also been expanded. In EA FC 27, players will have greater freedom when setting up corner kicks. Once selected, every player can be positioned freely, making attacking runs more decisive. Likewise, assigning specific players to cover key areas can make a significant difference when defending.
We conclude with what will likely be the gameplay mechanic that has the biggest impact in EA FC 27: attacking space recognition. AI-controlled teammates will now make a greater effort to occupy spaces between defensive lines effectively, provided that the attacking move is built intelligently.
At the same time, both through balls and manually triggered runs have been heavily nerfed compared to previous years. Simply asking a teammate to make a forward run before playing a through ball will no longer be enough to consistently create scoring opportunities.
In the past few hours, the full list of licensed leagues and cup competitions that will be available at the launch of EA Sports FC 27 has also been officially confirmed.
Last week, Electronic Arts also revealed important details about the pre-order bonuses included with every edition of the new football simulation, introducing the new Ultimate Plus Edition.
In addition, the new Hall Of FUT cards were announced for the popular Ultimate Team mode. This squad features iconic players who have become fan favourites throughout the history of the series.
