EA Sports, through a press release, announced that the next chapters of the FIFA series ( FIFA 23 ) may have a different name.
Electronic Arts owns many other rights such as Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and recently also a strong partnership agreement with Serie A. In addition, there are agreements with the top European competitions such as Uefa Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.
“As we look ahead, we’re also exploring the idea of renaming our global EA SPORTS football games. This means we’re reviewing our naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is separate from all our other official partnerships and licenses across the football world. The future of football is very big and very bright. Our priority is to ensure we have every opportunity to continue delivering the world’s greatest interactive football experiences. Thank you again for your support and feedback on this year’s game. We look forward to creating the future of football with you.”
After so many years it seems strange that the software house has decided to change the name of a sports title that dominates the videogame market dedicated to football. Probably the negotiations for the renewal of the partnership with FIFA are not proceeding as expected and Electronic Arts with this unexpected announcement is trying to prepare the community for a possible change. Of course, in addition to the name of the game, the name of the most popular FIFA Ultimate Team mode should also change.
