With a press release released on October 7th, Electronic Arts announced that the name of the FIFA series could change. Apparently, the negotiations for the renewal of the contract, expiring in 2022, with the Federation Internationale de Football Association are not progressing well.
The confirmation comes from the registration of the trademark of EA Sports FC by the Canadian software house. On 1 October it was registered at the UK Intellectual Property Office and on 4 October at the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
This stance could also be just a precaution in case of need, at the moment Electronic Arts has not confirmed that the series will change its name but has only stated that this possibility is being evaluated. Furthermore, the Canadian software house has made it clear that the agreement for the use of the FIFA name is in no way related to the other agreements entered into for the use of the licenses currently present in the football simulator series.
