YOUNG BOYS and Basel fans threw gaming console controllers onto pitch during yesterday’s game in a bizarre protest over eSports.

The referee was forced to halt the game for two minutes as the accessories rained down on to the pitch at the Stade de Suisse.

The Swiss supporters were protesting against the potential introduction of eSports and even held up a huge pause symbol banner.

On top of that, the words “f*** eSports” were carved into the side of some controllers.

An additional banner also said: “eSports are s***”.

Supporters of the two clubs also launched tennis balls onto the field of play – after the teams both invested in eSports.

The unique protest occurred just 15 minutes into the match in Switzerland.

In the game, Young Boys obliterated Basel 7-1 during the ridiculous game – just days after being thumped 3-0 themselves at the hands of Manchester United.

Despite the win, the fans were still fuming at the potential introduction of eSports – a growing trend across sporting teams across the world.

The NBA have already had one successful season of eSports, while Tottenham are set to host professional gaming at their new stadium – when it’s finally finished.

FIFA 19 is expected on September 28, 2018 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch. Keep on following us also through our social Facebook and Twitter for other news and information.
