On 15 October, the Judge of a Dutch court gave reason to the authority responsible for the control of video games marketed in netherlands, under penalty of a very high fine that could even reach a amount between 500 thousand and 10 million Euro.
According to the judge’s ruling, loot boxes must be considered real gambling and therefore must be regulated in this sense.
Electronic Arts already in 2018 opposed this evaluation of the loot boxes claiming that the products contained in them allowed to obtain only in-game items but obviously it was not enough for the judge.
With this sentence it is obliged to remove the loot boxes from the FIFA product marketed in the Netherlands within the next three weeks, otherwise a fine of 500,000 will be imposed ( 250 for EA and 250 for the European division ) per week up to a maximum of 10,000,000 of Euro.
At the moment the software house has not released official press releases about it to communicate whether it will execute the order imposed by the judge or try to oppose this decision.
