EA Sports, with the latest patch released on all game platforms, has made available a new option that allows you to monitor the ping and connection during the matches of all game modes available in FIFA 21.

Thanks to the introduction of connection indicators in FIFA 21 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it is possible to optimize the connection to the network during the gaming experience.

Below is the official guide that explains how to activate one or both of the indicators introduced with the latest update:

You can turn on connection monitoring, which will enable in-game visuals that show during a match to give you information about your Connection Quality. You’ll also get notifications when we believe that you may be experiencing potentially game-impacting Connection Quality issues.

  5. At the bottom of the list, go to Connection Monitoring.

Here you’ll see four different options:

  • Ping only – This will only display your ping number on the screen at all times during an applicable match.
  • Connection indicators only – This will only show the connection indicators on-screen in appropriate situations during an applicable match.
  • Ping and connection indicators – This means that both the ping number and the connection indicators will be displayed on the screen in appropriate situations during an applicable match.
  • Off – Neither the ping number nor the connection indicators will be displayed on the screen during a match.

What do these options do?

Depending on which option you choose, you’ll see different connection indicators in-game.

Ping number: This displays your current roundtrip ping in milliseconds. This value will update every second throughout the match.

Connection indicators: This enables a set of icons that can display during your match when certain connection thresholds are met.

What do the icons mean?

These icons are designed to indicate that we believe your current connection could be resulting in a degraded online gameplay experience.

If the icons display in yellow, we expect that there may be some degradation to your experience, and if the icons are displayed in red, we expect that there may be a more significant degradation to your experience.

fifa ping redfifa ping yellowHigh ping – You’ll see this icon when you are currently experiencing a high ping value.
fifa packet loss redfifa packet loss yellowPacket loss – You’ll see this icon when you’re experiencing potentially impactful packet loss.
fifa network instability redfifa network instability yellowJitter You’ll see this icon when you are experiencing jitter, a sudden and significant change to your ping within a short window of time.

WHY AM I SEEING THESE ICONS?

When one or more of these icons displays during a match, this likely means that your network connection is currently in a state where we believe that you may be experiencing some degradation to your online gameplay experience.

If you are seeing one or more of these icons displayed throughout the entire match, this likely means that there’s some aspect of your connection that is consistently above the values that we believe will provide a solid online gameplay experience. As a result, you may experience some degradation to your online gameplay experience throughout the match.

If you are seeing one or more of these icons appear sporadically throughout a match, this likely means that there is some aspect of your connection that is fluctuating or unstable, and that at those times you may be experiencing some degradation to your online gameplay experience.
