A module that makes the opposing goal impregnable? No! A suffocating ball possession, widening the game on the flanks to try to widen the defensive line while waiting for an opening to be created for the decisive pass for the strikers will allow you to evade the defensive phase of this module. Furthermore, adopting a module with a CDM in front of the defense will allow you to more easily contain the insertions of the opposing CAM.

The 4231 (2) is a valid alternative to the 4231 which guarantees greater coverage even in the wider areas of the green rectangle thanks to the presence of two pure wings. In the offensive phase you can widen the game more than in 4231 and get to the cross more easily. On paper, the defensive phase should also be more granitic.

The 4312 is the ideal module for those who prefer a very robust defensive phase and like to fly towards the opponentโ€™s goal with deadly counter-attacks. 4-2-2-2

The 4222 is a module that has begun to be seriously considered a few years ago. It guarantees an offensive phase with 4-6 players thanks to the support of the two medians and the insertions of the two COCs who often fill the spaces in the heart of the penalty area. Less effective and robust in the defensive phase as the two midfielders often accompany the strikers to ensure a discharge during the offensive maneuver.

How to defend yourself from 4312

As we have already written in the description of the module, it leaves a lot of space for opposing counter attacks while it becomes lethal in the offensive phase. Modules with wings and attacking midfielders can be a real thorn in the side, especially if you donโ€™t give your opponent time to bring the team back.

The most effective forms to counter 4231: 4-1-2-1-2, 4-1-2-1-2 (2), 4-3-2-1, 433 (2) or 4-3-1 -2.

4-3-3 (2)

The 433 (2) is a module that gives the possibility to create a large amount of play and ball possession. Thanks to this module you can finalize the game both in central ways with the two half wings using the banks for a physically strong tip or widen the game for the wings and try to finalize the action with crosses. Apparently it seems a module without weaknesses, unfortunately often the low half and the two central ones remain at the mercy of the opposing midfielders as the two half-wings and the two full-backs are slow to return. For this reason, you have to be extremely aggressive and try to recover the ball as quickly as possible.

How to defend yourself from 433 (2)

Modules with an attacking midfielder and two fast-restarting wings are capable of putting those who play with 433 in great difficulty (2). Unfortunately, in the containment phase, the two central players often remain alone due to the delayed return of the full-backs and the two half-wings.

The most effective forms to counter 433 (2): 4-1-2-1-2, 4-1-2-1-2 (2), 4231 (2) or 4231.
