Electronic Arts has announced the new chapter of the FIFA 21 football simulator also for the next gen consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X using the slogan Next Level. But what should we really expect? A brand new game or a simple port of the current gen version to the new game platforms coming within the next Christmas holidays?
Letโs take a dip in the past, the transition from PS3 to PS4 was certainly of great impact especially as regards the graphic component but the real improvements to the gameplay and the introduction of exclusive content were really poor. In fact, the Canadian software house released the first real next gen chapter with FIFA 15.
It is reasonable to expect more or less the same project also with FIFA 21, or a real porting with significant graphic improvements and new lighting effects, while the gameplay will probably only bring a small taste of what will then really be the first title designed entirely for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X platforms, or FIFA 22.
If for FIFA 20 and FIFA 21 Electronics Arts has relied on Frostbite, we expect that for FIFA 22 there can be a significant step forward, from this point of view, to make the most of the power of the next generation consoles. The Canadian software house is probably already developing a completely new graphics engine or it may already be in the final stages of the evolution of the current Frostbite aka โFrostbite 2.0โ.
It bodes well for the novelty of the Haptic Controller, Dualsense of PlyaStation 5, which should give new pad sensations to the hand especially through the impact of shots, passes, catches, kicks, contrasts. Without forgetting the humanization of the movements without the ball, we will be able to observe the players on the pitch while adjusting the shin guards in the 89th minute. According to Electronic Arts, the humanization of the players unlocks the most realistic behaviors ever seen in a sports video game, allowing us to see the details and feel all the excitement of sport at the highest levels.

Last but not least, the topic to be addressed is that relating to climatic conditions, The Canadian softwere house claims that we will be able to see the drops of rain crashing on benches, soups of water and a cold winter snow accumulating on the field with an incredible new level of detail. Weather conditions also affect athletes clothes to agree with environmental variables. But will all this also affect gameplay? At the moment we cannot say it with absolute certainty.
So we just have to wait for August during which Electronic Arts will divulge a series of pitch notes dedicated to the next gen version of FIFA 21.
