The issue related to the image rights acquired by EA Sports with a regular contract stipulated with FIFPRO does not seem to have been resolved yet despite the press releases disclosed by the Canadian software house.
Mino Raiola, Zlatan Ibrahimovic‘s agent, made important statements to The Telegraph. The agent said around 300 footballers are seriously considering taking legal action against EA Sports for using the players’ names and faces in the FIFA football simulator series.
“It is not attacking the quality of EA Sports; it is attacking the system,” Raiola said. “The system is wrong and that is a fight that Zlatan wants to take for all players. What will happen? We will fight until there is clarity and we will bring the fight to court.”
To date, however, Mino Raiola has not yet explained why after years in which the names and faces of the players appeared in the football simulator only a few days ago it became a problem. It is true that for many players the FIFA series has been a great international showcase.
According to the agent, the system is wrong, but if it is wrong today it was also 4, 5 or 10 years ago as the contract between EA Sports and FIFPRO is long lasting. What event could have triggered this chain reaction?
We just have to wait for the story to evolve.
